An ‘Attribute’ of a child in iTRACK consists of everything from their SEND code and Pupil Premium status, to their class and intervention groups. The default, nationally recognised Attributes will be populated directly from your MIS import (via Wonde or CTF), so any locally required groups e.g. intervention groups, table groups, sets etc. will have to be added manually.
‘Manage Attributes’ allows you to create your own unique custom filters. They are simple to add and you can have as many as you require. These will appear on every page in iTRACK under ‘SCHOOL FILTERS’ in your filtering section.
Filtering Section:
Your School Filters:
To access Manage Attributes, navigate to the Administration section of the menu and click on Manage Attributes.
You will see a the following 2 headings
- Available Attributes is a list of any additional Attributes an Administrator in your school has set up. Please note this will be blank if you are yet to do this.
- Add New Attribute is the required section for creating a new group.
How to Add a New Attribute
You need to fill out the following criteria:
- Attribute Name is the name for the group you are creating
- Attribute Type is the type of group you require, please see the examples below.
- Default Value is what you want the default setting to be for the group across the whole school when you initially set up the group.
There are 2 types of Attributes available: Yes/No or a Textbox. Both of which are best explained using the following example:
1) Yes/No:
This type of group is best used when a child is or is not, that Attribute. A known example of this would be Pupil Premium, where a child is either yes: Pupil Premium or no: not Pupil Premium.
In order to set up a group of this nature, we will use a common example of Gifted & Talented.
- Type the name of the group in the Attribute Name, in this case ‘Gifted & Talented’.
- Select the Attribute Type as ‘Yes/No’ from the dropdown menu.
- Select the Default Value as ‘No’, because you want the default position of all your pupils to NOT be part of the G&T group.
- Press Go and a green ‘Success’ message will appear. Your new group will now be in your ‘Available Attributes’ list.
2) Textbox:
This type of group is best used when there are numerous options for a particular Attribute, the textbox will allow you to specify what these are for a particular Attribute. A known example of this would be SEND, where a child can have a value of N, E, K, A, P, Q or S.
In order to set this up, we will use a common example of Table Groups.
- Type the name of the group in the Attribute Name, in this case write ‘Table Groups.
- Select the Attribute Type as ‘Textbox’ from the dropdown menu.
- Leave the Default Value blank because you do not want a default position for your children, until you specify which table they are on.
- Press Go and a green ‘Success’ message will appear. Your new group will now be in your ‘Available Attributes’ list.
Deleting a Group/Attribute
To remove an Attribute, simply click the ‘red X’ icon by the side of the Attribute name in your Available Attributes list that you wish to delete. Please be careful with this, as the Attribute will then be deleted along with any data stored for that Attribute.
Managing/Adding Children to Your Attributes
Once you have created your Attribute you will need to add children to it or edit the pupils who are moving in and out of your groups. To do this:
- Go to the Pupil Details.
- Select School Attributes (or Core Attributes) from the filtering section.
- Select the Attribute(s) you wish to amend, you can select multiple if you need to. In this case we will do G&T and Table Groups.
- Select the Year Group you wish to amend – in this case we will use Year .4
- Press 'Go'
You will now see a list of all the pupils in that cohort, with the ability on the right-hand side to edit each pupil’s Attribute.
- For Yes/No Attributes, use the dropdown menu to select whether yes or no is appropriate. In this case, select ‘yes’ for all the pupils who are G&T.
- For Textbox Attributes, type the value into the blank textbox. In this case: yellow/green/blue/red for each of their tables.
All of your changes will be saved automatically.
IMPORTANT: Please take care when using this functionality, as creating a new Attribute does so for ALL pupils and users within the school. Even greater care is required when deleting Attributes, as this also applies to all pupils. Where data is stored, deletion will permanently delete the data.
