In order to set your attainment targets, whether termly or simply End of Year, you need to visit the Set Pupil Targets page located under the 'Data Entry' sub-heading of 'KS1-3' section of the left-hand menu, and complete the following criteria:
Please note: Best practice would be to enter your target data at the beginning of every year.
- Year Group: Select the cohort for which you wish to view the data.
- Subject: Select the subject you wish to view.
- Subset: Select the subset/component you wish to view. If you are using 'iTRACK Lite Mode' this dropdown will be unavailable.
- Include Leavers: This will default to say 'no'. Change it to 'yes' if you wish to include the children marked as leavers in your data.
- Press Go.
Display Options
Before you begin to enter your targets, it is useful to ensure that the page is displayed in the best manner possible for the task you are undertaking. Please see the following 'Display Options':
Target Row Only
This is by far the most straightforward way to view and enter your targets. As you can see in the image below, only the target row will appear for each pupil, along with the data entry point for each term/assessment point.
Assessment Row Only
This toggle option will only allow you to view the assessment data that has been entered on the 'Enter Pupil Results' page. The data cannot be entered or edited here, but it may be useful to see the data when you are completing your targets.
Display Both (Target AND Assessment Rows)
This toggle will show 2 rows per pupil - 1 for the targets that need entering and 1 for the assessments that have pulled through from 'Enter Pupil Result'. This is useful for comparing your targets with the child's attainment, allowing you to easily see who has met, not met and exceeded their targets.
This is the most useful and thorough way to view the page, but please bear in mind that the table will double in size due to the additional row of information.
Setting Your Targets
Whether you want to set targets on a termly basis, or just for the End of Year, the methodology is the same:
- Click on the cell in the target row, in line with the assessment point/term you wish to record.
- Ensure the year is correct. This is particularly important for children working on any previous year group's curricula.
- Select which assessment standard your pupil should be working for that time of year.
- Your data has now been entered.
End of Year Targets (Setting/Amending)
As a default, when an 'End of Year Target' is set, iTRACK will automatically project all the future End of Year Targets to be the equivalent of what was initially set. For example, if the Y1 teacher decides a pupil should be 'secure' at the end of the year, iTRACK will set their target to be 'secure' for every year after.
This means that the bulk of the target setting work has been done for you based on the Y1 teacher's judgement. All the remainder of your staff will have to do is amend their targets where necessary.
This can easily be done by following the same process as the 'Setting Your Targets' section outlined above. Simply click on the target you wish to amend and select the more appropriate one from the pop up. You will then notice all the End of Year Targets for the later years will adjust to match the one that was just amended.
Please note: this functionality can be turned OFF in the KS1-3 section of your 'School Settings' as shown below:
Flood-Filling Your Targets
The quickest way to enter targets works in exactly the same way as allocating selected pupils (vertical flood-filling) on the 'Enter Pupil Results' page (instructions here). You may wish to select all your secure targets together in one go, and work through each band at a time. This can be done as follows:
- Select all the pupils you want to input data for using the 'allocate selected pupils' tickboxes.
- Input the target data for one pupil, and iTRACK will automatically duplicate the data for all your selected pupils.
- Once you are happy, you MUST remember to 'deselect all pupils' before you begin inputting the next child(ren).
Colour Coding
When you enter your targets, you will notice that the target row begins to change colour. This can be explained using the following key:
Analysis
You can use the following key to better understand how to analyse your target data:
1) Open Filters
You can use this button to filter all the data tables by any of your Attributes, which is useful for analysing your key groups of children. The mandatory, nationally recognised groups are under the 'Core Filters' tab, and any set up by your school will be under 'School Filters'.
2) Display Options
As explained above, here you can chose whether you want to view 'Target, Assessment, or Both' pieces of data.
3) Export to Excel
If you wish to analyse this data further, you can click the ‘Export to Excel’ button to generate an Excel file containing this data. Each group will be presented on a separate worksheet within the file.
4) Select Pupils
For flood-filling your data, as explained above.
5) Expand/Collapse Year Groups
By clicking the Year Group header, you can choose to expand or collapse that year of data. By default, iTRACK will always show the full year group the pupil is in, and then just the End of Year for later years.
6) Yes/No
This column gives a simple yes or no. In the target row, 'yes' means your target was secure or above and 'no' means it was not. In the assessment row, 'yes' means your child achieved secure or above by the end of the year and 'no' means they did not..
7) Sort Arrows
By clicking the arrow, it will sort your pupils into ascending order and then descending order if you click the other arrow. This is great for getting your intervention groups and higher attainers at either end of the table. This process can be repeated for any column heading, anywhere in iTRACK you see the 'arrows' symbol.
9) Percentage Breakdown
You can click either of the 'plus' icons to expand your percentages to give a more detailed breakdown. Equally, you can then click the 'minus' icon to collapse the percentages back down into the condensed version.
9) Pupil Pop Up
Clicking on any of the 'Target Met' percentages will reveal the names of the pupils contained in that that figure.
